Walnut Ball Cookies

Welcome to day six of my Seven Days of Holiday Treats series! I apologize for the day off from posting, but yesterday was my sister’s birthday and I was happy to celebrate with her and the family. Today I was back in the kitchen baking cookies to share with you!

Today’s recipe comes from my Grandma and is definitely a family favorite. Each and every year these cookies are requested. There is something so seasonal and nostalgic about a cookie that looks like a snowball. And anything with nuts in my family is welcomed (this recipe contains two cups of walnuts!). Also, one of the best parts of this recipe is that it contains just a couple ingredients that really pack a punch of flavor. Most of the ingredients I bet you already have in your pantry, which allows you to whip these up at the drop of a hat.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. plus 6 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 c. powdered sugar (plus more for coating later)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 c. finely chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Mix all ingredients in a stand mixer until well combined.

Pinch off a bit of dough and form it into a ball (about the size of a ping pong ball). Place it on a baking sheet; these can be placed very close together since they do not spread or rise.

Place baking sheet in the oven and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the cookies from the oven and roll in powdered sugar while still warm. Happy holidays and enjoy!
