Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

My husband is painting the basement this weekend. For those of you who have tackled home improvement projects I know you will relate to this. Painting the basement sounds great in theory; a new color will definitely freshen the space and match the rugs, lights, etc. that we purchased for the space also. But in reality…..my basement looks like a tornado has ripped through and left discarded odds and ends in the middle of the room. So whats a girl to do? Bake cookies, of course!

I am not much of a painter….meaning I have no talent when it comes to evenly coating walls. My efforts are usually thanked quickly and then delegated elsewhere. And that’s fine with me…I have many talents and painting does not need to be one of them. My husband is good enough for the both of us. Thankfully my dad was able to come assist with the painting adventure this weekend; they make a good team. I couldn’t think of a better way to say “THANK YOU” than with a batch of warm, gooey, chewy homemade oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (say that ten times fast).

I am a firm believer in finding an amazing recipe and sticking with it for years. I don’t like to mess with something that is tried and true. I have been making the same oatmeal cookie recipe since I was nine years old…the one that is located under the Quaker Oatmeal lid! The only change I made to the recipe was adding chocolate chips instead of raisins since I love the extra sweetness. I also add slightly more vanilla because I “eyeball” the amount (who wants to wash two teaspoon measures because you have one for wet ingredients and one for dry?).

Here is a link to the original recipe in case you are in the mood for the raisin version:

I think the guys liked the warm cookies to motivate them through the rest of the job. Make some cookies for someone you love in your life…enjoy!
